Event Offers Three Days of Cycling Action for Spectators
Killington, VT- The Killington Stage Race returns for the sixth consecutive year in 2015, bringing with it hundreds of top competitive cyclists from across the country. This year’s race to draw over 1,300 competitors and spectators for the three-day event set for May 23 through 25.
Race Director Gary Kessler has seen momentum growing over the last several years and expects another great turnout. “We’re pleased to see the number of racers we have registered so far,” says Kessler. “Cycling fans should get ready to see some spectacular action by some amazing athletes all weekend long.”
Popular with cyclists and spectators alike, the Killington Stage Race is a series of three races structured to cover a variety of terrain and distances set against the landscape of Vermont’s Green Mountains. These include the Lookout Restaurant and First Stop Sports Circuit Race, an 18-mile circuit with an exciting spring during every lap; the Champion System Road Race, a 61/76 mile point-to-point race featuring the five mile climb up East Mountain Road; Long Trail Brewing Individual Time Trial, an 11-mile course that’s relatively flat for Vermont’s landscape.
“We’re looking forward to the return of the Killington Stage Race,” says Amy Morrison, Director of the Killington Pico Area Association. “It’s a great kickoff to our summer season and a wonderful way for both cyclists and spectators to experience the beauty of the region.”
In 2014 the race brought an estimated 1,200 people to town, resulting in an estimate of $650,000 in direct spending to the region.
“The Town of Killington is delighted to bring the Stage Race back to the Heart of the Green Mountains Memorial Day Weekend,” stated Seth Webb, Town Manager. “Each year the event brings thousands of people who rent rooms, eat in our restaurants and shop at our stores. The race has made the town lively on what was traditionally an extremely quiet weekend.
The Killington Stage Race is presented by the Town of Killington with support from Long Trail Brewing and Champion System. For more information on Killington Stage Race courses, registration and more, visit www.killingtonstagerace.com.
