Beast of the East Pro GRT set for July 28-31, 2016 at Killington Resort
KILLINGTON, Vt. (November 5, 2015) – Killington Resort, the largest four-season resort in Eastern North America, will host its first USA Cycling Professional Mountain Bike Gravity Tour (Pro GRT) race this summer, July 28-31, 2016.
The Beast of the East Pro GRT is a UCI C2 that will expose Killington’s expansive terrain to an expected 300-400 world class mountain bike racers. Killington anticipates a raucous atmosphere for this major race in a region with a fast-growing mountain bike community.
USA Cycling accepted Killington’s application to host a Pro GRT based on the resort’s recent expansion of its trail network, including new trails designed by Gravity Logic, and the resort’s commitment to continue growing the sport of downhill mountain biking in Vermont.
"We are excited to showcase the best terrain in the east to the top riders from around the world," says Jeff Alexander, events and sponsorships manager at Killington Resort. "This is a great step towards securing a World Cup or National Championship event in the future," adds Alexander.
Killington Resort debuted new intermediate and beginner trails and lower-mountain lift service in the Snowshed area during summer 2014 to complement the K-1 Express Gondola, which carries mountain bikers to Killington Peak and advanced upper mountain terrain. After two successful summers with a second lift assisting mountain bike operations, Killington plans to expand its mountain bike park to Ramshead during summer 2016 with additional trails and a third lift for mountain bikers.
The seven-race Pro GRT kicks off May 7, 2016. For more information, visit www.killington.com/events.
