KILLINGTON (July 20, 2010) - Some of the nation’s best junior golfers will swing into  Killington, Vermont the first week of August for the Killington Junior Golf Championship, sanctioned by the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) at The Green Mountain National Golf Course August 2-5, and the Vermont Junior Open, presented by the Killington Resort Golf Course August 2-3. The Vermont Junior Open will be open to non-qualifiers of the AJGA event as well as junior golfers that are not members of the AJGA.

“We want to provide a first-class golf event for the players who come to town, but do not qualify for the AJGA event, as well as junior golfers who are not AJGA members,” said Dave Pfannenstein, Killington Resort’s PGA Director of Golf. “We want people to be able to stay around for the week, play in our event, and experience all the wonderful summer activities Killington has to offer.”

The field for The Vermont Junior Open will be limited to 120 players. The event consists of 36 holes of stroke play competition over two days. Golfers will include both girls and boys, ages 12 to 19. Registration is open online. For further information please call Dave Pfannenstein at 802-422-6885.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for the Town of Killington because in addition to the golfers attending the tournament, we are jointly marketing the Killington area with it’s lodging, dining and summer activities,” said Seth Webb, Killington Director of Tourism and Economic Development. “Each player is accompanied by friends and family, so the town can expect a busy week.”
