Killington Parks :: On the Road #1
Posted by The Beast on August 26, 2016
While park laps are always on the mind, it’s about that time of year when the anticipation for the upcoming winter season begins to kick in. Summer is winding down, and winter... just around the corner. Bags packed and skateboards in tow, we headed south to Providence, RI for the first stop of this year’s Street Team tour.
The Alex and Ani Center in downtown Providence was set to be transformed into a skate plaza, playing host to Roll for Rob, a benefit event for Rob Pontes which would prove to be one of the state’s largest skateboard events to date. Pontes, who is currently fighting a battle with ALS, is a local skater to the area, husband and father of two young girls, and friend to many. His work has benefited the East’s skateboard community for many years, and now that same community is giving back, raising money to help offset the costs of his family’s medical bills.
Together with Darkside Snowboards we gave a donation to the raffle prizing and jumped right into the flow of things, skating alongside new and old friends. There was an unreal vibe inside the plaza, every single person seemed to be skating with just a bit more purpose. The main goal of this day was of course to fundraise, but it also served to bring together a community of skateboarder’s and to continue introducing our passion for board sports to others. We interacted with by-standers, explaining to some what the event was about and how we’d made the trip from Vermont just to be there. A handful of grom rippers would notice our Darkside skate decks and Killington Parks apparel, bringing up a conversation of the upcoming winter. We spread the early news of plans for a skatepark in Killington, tossed out some swag, and headed back North, marking stop number one a success.
Through the remainder of August and into this Fall you’ll find the Street Team up in Burlington, VT then south to Boston and NYC. While some details are still being ironed out, we'll for sure be in Burlington from Friday, August 26th through Sunday, August 28th at The Burton Summer Sale tossing out swag, sharing the 101 on what’s new with Killington for the upcoming season, and offering some solid promotions for year round activities at the resort.
Stay tuned to our social media channels for the latest, especially @killingtonparks on Snpachat, and we’ll see you soon.
