Go Green :: Protect Your Playground Projects Win $9,000
Posted April 24, 2014
We asked you to share your ideas to make Killington a greener place, and you did not disappoint. With more submissions than nearly every other Powdr resort, we couldn't be more stoked to put one into practice for next season. After all your comments and feedback, the solution was clear: we're going to take them all! That's right, we're pleased to announce that nearly $9,000 of the over $40,000 that Powdr will invest across its nine mountain areas in this program’s first year will support the following projects at Killington.
Charging stations - for more than just your phone.
Whether it's 20 minutes from Rutland or four hours from Brooklyn, getting to Killington involves some driving. If electricity costs $0.11 per kilowatt-hour, charging an all-electric vehicle with a 70-mile range will cost about $2.64 to reach a full charge. That's about the same as operating an average central air conditioner for about 6 hours. It's no Mr. Fusion, but 1.21 gigawatts, here we come.
More bubbles, less bottles.
There's more than one way to get liquid shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and soap to the hotel rooms at the Killington Grand Hotel. We're currently investigating the installation of on-site dispensers to cut down on packaging (typically plastic) and waste. Rather than half-used bottles hitting the trash, guests will use only what they need. Nothing is wasted, everyone is cleaner.
Reduce. Get loose. Recycle.
Don’t you want to jib bonks made of crushed cans or an out-of-service gondola cabin? Here's the drill: take trash, build terrain park features, have more fun and fill fewer landfills. More recycling, more park features, more playground.
