Snowmaker’s Essentials Part 1: Boots + Crampons
Our snowmakers are the unsung heroes of winter. Sure, Mother Nature drops an average of 250 inches of snow on Killington’s slopes each winter. But frosting our trails with a full season’s worth of snow - and laying down immaculate surfaces for skiing and riding - can require more than nature delivers.
Snowmaking is very labor intensive, almost like going to boot camp. Staff spends 12 hours a day marching around the mountain - in mountaineering boots like you see here. They’re rated for the Himalayan cold, and when conditions are slick and the terrain steep, snowmakers will strap on crampons for added security. All in a day’s work…
