Inspired: Dan Rosenblum

According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the definition of “inspire” is the following, “to influence, move, or guide by divine or supernatural inspiration”. Back in 2011, after ski halfpipe and slopestyle was added to the 2014 Winter Olympics, Killington Resort was inspired by Killington freeskiing local and more importantly, 2014 Winter Olympic hopeful, 19 year old Dan Rosenblum - current member of Killington Resort’s Park Team.
Rosenblum, who started skiing at age 3 and hitting rails at age 8, topped off his 2010-11 season with a first place finish at the U.S. Revolution Tour Overall Ski Halfpipe, the top junior event tour in the country.
We had the opportunity to sit down one-on-one with Dan to learn that “he skis his life away, that he skis everyday”, loves Killington chicken tenders and MTV’s Jersey Shore. Additionally, given the choice to pull an all-star crew to go skiing with for one day, he would choose his teammates from Killington Mountain School; they joke around and push each other to the next level – a perfect combination for success.
Heading into the 2011-12 season, he placed 14th in the Dew Tour Qualifiers in Breckenridge, CO in December 2011, only to suffer from a season-ending broken collarbone. After hours upon hours of hard work and rehabilitation, Dan came back stronger than ever for the 2012-13 season.
Highlights from earlier this season include competing in Park City Mountain Resort’s Grand Prix event, throwing down with the best halfpipe freeskiers in the world, followed by a fourth place finish in the U.S. Revolution Tour.
Just last week, the 2013 U.S. Freestyle / Freeskiing Junior World Championship Ski Team was announced and Killington’s own, Dan Rosenblum was selected as one of 35 athletes to compete at the 2013 FIS Freestyle Junior World Championships March 26-31 at Valmalenco, Italy. This event is an incredible opportunity for Dan to gain international competition experience while competing against the top juniors in the world.
Killington Resort continues to be inspired by Dan’s talent and dedication to the sport of freeskiing; we all wish him the best of luck this week in Italy.
