Bud Light Bear Mountain Mogul Challenge

This annual competition heats up on Saturday as 200 amateur bumpers take to the slopes of Outer Limits to battle it out for top honors. The top 32 men and 16 women will return to compete in a head-to-head competition on Sunday. Participants run a dual course with sudden death format; only the winners advance. Spectators will enjoy the Bud Light Beer Festival and concert under a tent, ensuring a good time rain or shine.

Athletes and spectators alike will enjoy the Bud Light Beer Festival and Concert under the tent at Bear Mountain, insuring a good time no matter how much snow falls! This year’s event is held in conjunction with Snoe.down, an all-ages Winter Music Festival featuring the critically acclaimed progressive rock band moe.

On Saturday at 10 a.m., competitors will each have one run, then the top 32 men and 16 women will return on Sunday to compete in a dual format at 11 a.m. Pairs of competitors will run a dual course with sudden death format - only the winners remain.

Registration:

Pre-registration will open online at 8:00 p.m. EST on Mon, March 1, 2010. The first 200 prepaid registrants will be entered for competition. The entry fee is $50. Please note this is an amateur competition so USSA A athletes and USSA B athletes who have qualifies for EQS or B championships are not allowed to compete.

Lift tickets are not included in the $50 entry fee. Competitor lift tickets may be purchased for $70 for a two-day lift ticket; there are no one-day lift ticket options for competitors.

Judging Criteria:

Males and females are scored separately in each of the five age groups. Each Judge can award a maximum of 10 points in the following categories:
• Turns and Line (50%): Quality and variety of well-executed turns while staying as close as possible to the fall line.
• Air (25%): Quality of upright aerial maneuvers executed spontaneously in the fall line. Inverts are strictly prohibited.
• Speed (25%): Speed score will be based on a male and female pacesetter’s time.

Inverts are strictly prohibited.

Note: The purpose of the Mogul Challenge is to recognize technical superiority and athletic ability - not reward out-of-control skiing.

Elimination Rounds:

On Saturday, at 10:00 a.m. each competitor will get one run. Competitors will start in race bib order. Prizes will be awarded at 4:30 p.m. to the first, second, and third place winners in each category on the outdoor stage at Bear Mountain Lodge.

The top 32 men and 16 women will return to compete in the finals on Sunday, pairings for Sunday’s first run will be arranged tennis tournament style.

On Sunday, at 11:00 a.m. pairs of competitors will run a dual course with sudden death elimination until only the winners remain. Awards will be presented to the first, second, third and fourth place overall male and female winners. The 1st – 4th place winners’ names will be engraved on the Bear Mountain Mogul Challenge trophy.
