Layer Up, It’s Winter
Posted February 11, 2013
Old Man Winter has arrived, and he has brought the seasonably cold weather we all know and…love. Cold temperatures are amplified by the wind atop the mountain, and skiers or riders speed while descending. It’s important to have proper clothing to stay warm on the mountain. A stop by Killington Sports, Route 4 can help you get geared up to battle the weather while you conquer The Beast. The knowledgeable staff there knows what products will work best for each individual in any situation.
Shred Tips: Make Better Snowboard Turns
Posted February 8, 2013
Much of this is common sense, but there are some techniques involved in getting the most out of your snowboarding. It begins and ends with the turn, and in snowboarding you turn one of two ways – either heelside or toeside. The difference between the two is explained like this: your heelside is similar to the heel of your palm – powerful, but not necessarily the most nimble. The toeside turn is more dexterous, like your fingers, and can make more “precise” turns than heelside.

NOR’BEASTER Spring Celebration Returns
Posted February 1, 2013 - 13 Comments
As we begin our spring snowmaking expansion (have you seen the glacier we made on Superstar?), I wanted to review our plans to return Killington to its rightful place as the leader of spring time celebrations. As many of you know, we created a spring series of music and lifestyle happenings last year called NOR’BEASTER. This year’s series kicks off March 17 with our first weekend March 21-24 for the snoe.down festival featuring moe.
The fun continues for eight weeks with various other music, programing, and lifestyle elements through April and into May. Of course, we shall not forget the highlight of the celebration with the return of the Bear Mountain Mogul Challenge on April 7.
GroundHog Day: Will Punxsatawney Phil see his shadow?

Old Man Winter fell asleep in his chair this past week, and while he was taking his nap the bear of spring snuck into Killington and brought unseasonable warm temperatures and rain. It’s terrible, first pick-a-nick baskets, now this? While spring is wonderful, it has a time and place, and that time is not January and place is not in Killington. But there’s a hero out there. The saving grace of winter is hiding in the dark hole in a tree stump, waiting for his chance to pounce.
Resort Power Outage MLK Weekend
Posted January 25, 2013 - 2 Comments
On Saturday of MLK weekend a twelve thousand volt utility company power line failed at the resort. This power line services the entire lift and snowmaking system in the Southside portion of the resort. After repair and investigation by the utility company linemen, it was determined that the power line most likely separated due to previous damage by tree limbs in one of the recent wind storms.

Mother Nature has kept the temperatures low, okay, really low for the past week, which is fantastic when it comes to snowmaking. The guns have been blasting across Killington’s peaks and we’re officially in a “snow whale warning”!

The Power of Learning

Did you know that January is National Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month? Resorts across the country are encouraging new skiers and snowboarders to try a new sport – just like Killington. In honor of National Learn to Month, we sent out one of our own on a 3-day Learn to Snowboard mission. The outcome? Not only did our lucky candidate enjoy the lessons, his progression has been quick and easy. Plus, he’s now hooked!
