In Germany, Austria and other European countries that love their outdoor beer gardens, the umbrella bar is a fixture. They’ve also started catching on in North America in recent years, and just before the 2011-12 winter season Killington Resort built two, replacing the Superstar Pub with a unique style of outdoor seating.
 

The Roaring Brook Umbrella Bars are located slopeside near the K-1 Lodge, and open for both the summer and winter seasons. Come raise your glasses and stomp your feet to some German Oom-Pah music, grab a snack or just catch some rays—the umbrellas can be retracted when the sun is shining—but it’s a festive vibe no matter the weather.
