Spring Event Update, 3.27.12
Posted March 27, 2012
A spring event update from Matt Porter, events and partnership manager for Killington Resort. Lots of questions are surfacing regarding the status of events for the rest of the winter season. With current conditions looking more like the end of April than March; many of our events are being affected.
As the Events Manager, my goal is to have plan A, B and C in my back pocket just in case things don’t go as planned. And this year, the Events Department had to resort to plans D and E on a few occasions.
With record breaking high temperatures last week, we were very grateful that our Terrain Park Crew pulled off the final Monster Energy K-Town Showdown Rail Jam at Bear Mountain on Saturday, March 24 with over 70 competitors. The crew worked well into the night to create the event venue as well as reset features in the Under Armour MTN Dream Maker Terrain Park for one last hurrah.
Additionally, on Saturday, March 24, the Operations, Marketing, Sales and Reservations staff teamed up with Food and Beverage to put on Season Pass Holder Appreciation Day including a free BBQ lunch and prize raffle at the Roaring Brook Umbrella Bars. Our loyal guests have been feeling the effects of the weather right along with us, so it was the least we could do to show our appreciation.
Below you will find an update regarding Killington’s spring event lineup:
NOR’BEASTER, March 23-April 1
Our inaugural ten day kick-off to spring has turned into a kick-off to summer. Below you will find the updates for each event within the NOR’BEASTER:
The Hibernation, March 31-April 1 - POSTPONED to 2013
The parks went into early hibernation this year.
Snoop Dogg performing at the Pickle Barrel, March 31
Tickets are on sale now.
Bud Light Intergalactic Pond Skimming Championships, April 1 - POSTPONED to 2013
The decision came down to hosting the event at the base of Superstar and destroying the snow in the process or preserving the snow in order to stay open as long as possible. We chose the latter.
Freestyle Frenzy, April 7 - POSTPONED to 2013
Due to limited open terrain, we did not feel good about closing down part of our main trail for the event, so instead we postponed the Freestyle Frenzy to next year. On the positive side, if you like skiing or riding moguls, we have plenty.
Easter Egg Hunt and Service, April 8
As long as we’re open; there will be an Easter Egg Hunt for the kiddos at K-1 Lodge. Sunrise Service will be held as scheduled at the Snowshed Base Lodge.
Please check Killington.com for the latest updates regarding events along with the daily Snow Report for the most up-to-date information on conditions.
