Sunday, April 25 will be the final day of the 2009-10 season

Sunday, April 25 will be the final day of operations for the 2009-10 ski and snowboard season. Our mountain operations team has done an outstanding job providing a quality spring product. However, based upon the weather forecast for next week calling for cloudy skies, rain and cool temperatures, combined with a thinning snow pack, it is time for us to end the season on a high note. This weekend’s weather forecast, which is calling for sunshine and temperatures into the 40s and lower 50s, will provide a great opportunity to close out the season.

Was at Jay for the final day. Was not proud to be a Killington passholder. Felt a little embarrased how you let the die hards down..Didn't bad mouth ya either though. Was glad to experience the new tram lodge and the party in the parking lot. The snow was fine but I'm sure it was at K too. Spent $200 at Jay plus a little at the JVI. If Killy was open I would have spent it there. Oh well. I'll be back for the mountian biking soon and the last days of spring skiing will be a memory...ps they sold 1100 tickets at Jay on Sauurday May 1...

Just had an amazing weekend at Sugarloaf. They had less snow than Killington but stayed open and treated us like Gold. It sure would be nice to be treated like that at killington again. So disturbing!

Just think most of the people sliing at the Loaf and Jay this weekend would have been skiing at Killington. Please explain to us why you want to through money away.Another season pass? Ya right!

I just do not get it. You spend all that money to make snow and you do not want to use it. You open the gondola up all summer for 15-20 mtn bikers and you can not figure out how to make money of off at least 20 times that amount of skiers. You played use like fools and we have no one to blame but ourselves.I bought my first pass in 1983 and am seriously considering not buying one next year.It seems like you are purposely trying not to make money just to justify not opening. Remenber, until the economy turns(3-5 years?)You will make no money off of real estate and that stupid, unneccassary and poorly planned village. That just leaves us,long term skiers and riders to soak for your cash flow.

well i was going to drive all the way from michigan for the final may second weekend... but i guess thats not going to happen... i come to killington three times a winter for a total of 9 skiing days i guess i will be giving that money to sugarloaf next year... the best is DEAD

You're depriving us of th best time of year! Spring is the reason I have purchased a Killington pass in the past. I'm thinking long & hard about continuing that practice.

Well once again I will be giving my money to another resort at the end of the season. Suarloaf does not lie. This family will not be buying Unlimited season passes here again. May 2nd was the posted closing, seems illegal to change it last minute. Alot of people have had to change there vacation to go to Sugarloaf next week. Think they will be back to Killington ever again?

I need to get the word BEAST removed from my season pass from this season. The Beast is dead. All the good will you built up this season has now been pissed away. Nobody will remember that when Ma Nature didnt cooperate, Killington kicked but with the snowmaking. All they will remember now is an April 25th closing date with top to bottom coverage on Superstar....Super Lame....Ding dong the BEast is dead the beast is dead, ding ding the mighty beast is dead

Very untimely announcement. Luckily - had not yet purchased next years pass and am now the owner of a Boyne Resorts pass that will offer me skiing from October to May. Condo is booked at the loaf for next week to get my fix. The couple thousand my buddies and I spend will go into the Maine economy rather than where Iv'e skied since '84.

This is very disappointing. If you publicize 5/2 then you really need to keept to it, especially if conditions permit. And the conditions certainly do permit. I was at Kton on Wednesday 4/21 and coverage on SS, Skylark & Bittersweet was superb. The SS headwall was nowhere near showing dirt, and even Upper Ovation was still pretty good except for the lower traverse to SS. Double Dipper, Downdraft and Cascade, although not served by lifts, had more than 80% snow coverage. The decision to close 4/25 is back for skiers, passholders, but also for Kton because it shows loyal customers that the word of management cannot be trusted.

can't you guys potentially up on the weekends only? I can see during the week, but I'm sure there are plenty of peeps that will take some turns the following weekend!

I will be showing my reaction with my wallet. It may not be a lot but there will be 2 less season passes sold this year.

Weather report is starting to look better, will you open to May9 th now?

posted by tt on April 22, 2010 7:16 AM EDT

K management, ask yourselves this question. Is the money you save closing early worth all this bad publicity?

posted by Steve on April 21, 2010 10:26 PM EDT

I’ve skied 4/21/10 and theirs plenty of snow on Superstar to last two or more weeks. It’s a Shame that Killington’s bean counters are using unpredictable weather as an excuse to close early. Unfortunately Killington’s management doesn’t seem to care much about its loyal customers, reputation and bragging rights.

Very disappointing!!

We are disgusted with this!Another horrible decision by the new owners.Beast has been slayed and is now dead.

bring back the beast! closing earlier than may 2 is lam,e I remember skiing k in late may hiking through mud to get to the superstar chair and hiking down superstar headwall to get to the superstar glacier nobody ever minded it was part of the fun!!!!!!!

Beastly. Just Beastly.

posted by Jonathan on April 21, 2010 5:48 PM EDT

I agree with the overall opinion that there should be a longer season at Killington. You call yourselves the Beast now, live up to it!! To truly be the beast of the east, you have to stay open until it just can't be skied anymore.

I do not endorse this early closing date.

I agree with everything Dr. Z said. I am extremely disappointed that I will not be skiing on May 2. I am also sure all my die-hard skier/riders friends from Killington and other mountains are also disappointed. Wish that Sugarloaf was closer as I would gladly go there to ski until they closed but the distance is just too much for me. Once again, Powdr's accounting department has made the decision to close just like last year when they closed on a Saturday because their payroll period ended on the Saturday. I think they need to change the season passes and remove BEAST from it since they are not living up to that reputation.

posted by Ken on April 21, 2010 4:47 PM EDT

What a waste of all that snow left on SS and many other runs, seems time has come for me to not renew my unbeastly pass for next year. The death of BMMC was one thing but closing with SS top to bottom in April is just lame

posted by Magnetmike on April 21, 2010 12:59 PM EDT

I can remember skiing Cascade, Downdraft, Glades well into may years ago. And now with the snow making capabilities Killington has they could easily stay open longer. The days of the Superstar glacier are gone now it seems. Can also running a club trip to Killington in mid april and they had snow guns blasting top to bottom on Superstar. They stop making snow early in the season now. Things have really changed and not for the better. The days of the early and late season diehard skier reputation for Killington have been ruined. Use to be you came up in May and would see license plates from all over the east and even from Canada and even from fla. I do realize that the economy is bad now but it was booming just a few years ago but Killington didn`t make snow like they could and used to do. Very sad and I feel bad for the season pass holders getting cheated out of another month or more of skiing. Thats just my opinion

The Original Beast would be open until every grain of snow was gone on Superstar! The new 'Beast' not so much! Glad I didn't buy that Spring Pass!

It really does seem that you have enough snow to at least postpone the decision to close until next week when you have a better idea of what the conditions for the first weekend in May will be. However, what's truly misleading is that the Killington twitter website stated just two and a half days ago that we have: "Yet another reason not to drive further north! We received another inch of snow overnight and we're skiing through Sunday May 2." APRIL 18

This is truly misleading at best and false advertising at worst (when coupled with the "closing May 2 conditions permitting). Right now, it looks as if conditions may permit it. In any case, contrary to what K suggested on its twitter page, there really do seem to be a bunch of good reasons to go north now. Sugarloaf, Sugarloaf, Sugarloaf.

That's bogus! You have plenty of snow on Superstar to go another week +. There's still enough snow on Outer Limits and a dozen trails off the peak to go another week. To think we use to ski here in June and now you won't even give us May when you have the snow. LAME LAME LAME

posted by icantski on April 21, 2010 9:56 AM EDT

I agree with doc z... Keep the place open.. We use to hike down (or ski) the headwall over rocks and dirt to get to the goods which was well worth it. We undersatnd the bad economy but keep it open for the local businesses too

That's a bummer. Too bad the heavy snows never realy panned out for Ktown this year.

Let's hope that the snow gods enjoyed their vacation this year and brig the 2010-2011 season lots of snow!

posted by Doc Z on April 20, 2010 10:57 PM EDT

There was a time when Killington believed in the Superstar Glacier and pumped out snow that would last until June. That was taken away from us. There was a time when we could enjoy May sun on soft snow....no longer. There was a time when Bear Mtn was the place to be through April.....no more. As a long time season pass holder I am deeply dissapointed by the fun that has been taken away from us. I find it ironic that they struggle to open with 2 trails and close with ten times the coverage. Where has the loyalty to us season pass holders gone????
