What a difference a couple of degrees make
Posted by Tom Horrocks on November 7, 2009
Thanks to a two degree drop in forecasted temperatures our snowmaking crew was able to push the production limits of the world’s most extensive snowmaking system last night and set us up for some outstanding opening-day conditions.
On Friday morning when we announced that we would be opening 24 hours later, we projected that walking would be required on the lower portion of the mountain. Thanks to those cold temps, we were excited to learn early Saturday that we would be sliding all the way down Lower Bunny Buster for opening day.
We’ll enjoy the fruits of our snowmaking team’s labors here at Killington on Sunday with the lifts again spinning from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. In the meantime, the snowmaking crew will be taking a well-deserved rest. Looking at the latest forecast, hopefully we’ll see production resume sometime late next week. But as of now, the forecast doesn’t look cold enough for making snow on the lower portion of the mountain until next weekend at the earliest.
If you’re heading up here for turns on Sunday, you’ll see that “some walking will be required” remains on the snow report as the forecast is calling for overnight temps to remain above freezing and more sunshine and temps in the 40s for Sunday.

Plenty of snow. Plenty of coverage. That snow is not going any where. Good job now just stay open.
