Mountain Report

Good morning, Beast fans! 

Seasons are colliding right here at The Beast. While the Bike Park is still rocking on Ramshead and Snowshed, our snowmakers have gone big this morning, turning on the snowguns for the first time in our North Ridge area and (soon enough) on Superstar. Plenty of action on the hill to cover today! 

First up, today's weather is, well, pretty cold out there. Temps around our base areas will float in the mid-30s today but with a chillier feel, as winds will be a little bit blustery, especially at higher elevations. The sun is due to come out later this morning, which will make it a little easier to spot some snowguns going to work on the upper mountain. 

Our snowmakers fired things up for the season on North Ridge this morning, with Great Northern, Rime, and Reason in the mix so far. By the end of these snowmaking temperatures sometime on Sunday, we're looking to have snowguns going on Upper East Fall as well as most of Superstar. We're taking advantage of every snowmaking window we can get this time of year! Though we don't have an opening date yet, we are prepared for whenever Mother Nature allows us to start skiing and riding again. 

Meanwhile, a little lower on the mountain, we still have more biking in store! This is the first of our two final Bike Park weekends this season, as our Ramshead and Snowshed Express lifts will spin from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. today and tomorrow. There’s still time to squeeze in a few more laps on two wheels before we call it a season! For our final Bike Park weekend of the season, October 23–25, Snowshed will be the only lift in operation. 

Even this late in the season, our Trail Crew is still showing the Bike Park some serious love! The Snowshed pod is perfect for finding your flow, while Ramshead offers more technical riding from top to bottom, including fan-favorite Black Magic. Want a preview? Looking to stretch your legs beyond the bike trails? Hiking trails remain open with the exception of our upper mountain trails A, C, E, F, and J, which closed following the end of K-1 Gondola operations. Autumn is still a beautiful time to explore The Beast on foot. Be sure to follow all posted construction signage and check out our hiking map before heading out.

Spooky season is in full swing, and we’ve got a weekend lineup packed with family-friendly Halloween fun! The Salmeri Haunted House continues through Sunday, October 18 for a weekend of family-friendly frights. Got a costume ready and a sweet tooth to satisfy? Head to Killington Parks & Recreation’s Trunk-or-Treat this afternoon for some trick-or-treating fun. Then, keep the spooky adventures going at the Haunted Hillside Scavenger Hunt, where you can hunt for clues and enter to win raffle prizes! 

As we head into our third year of independence, we’re keeping the momentum going with another $15 million committed to capital improvements! That brings our total investment in infrastructure upgrades to $80 million since fall 2024, with an additional $200 million in projected capital expenditures over the next decade. Snowmaking is beginning on Superstar, and that can only mean one thing: The Stifel Killington Cup presented by Dunkin' is returning to Superstar in just over a month on November 27–29! The world’s fastest women’s alpine ski racers will soon be back at The Beast, bringing world-class racing, live music, and thousands of East Coast ski fans along for the ride.
