Safety Awareness
Safety is always a serious concern at winter resorts. The National Ski Areas Association has launched a safety awareness campaign to promote responsible mountain behavior. Just follow seven simple rules - "YOUR RESPONSIBILITY CODE" - and you'll be doing a big favor to yourself and everyone else on the slopes.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITY CODE
- Always stay in control.
- People ahead have the right of way.
- Stop in a safe place for you and others.
- Whenever starting downhill or merging, look uphill and yield.
- Use devices to help prevent runaway equipment.
- Observe signs and warnings, and keep off closed trails.
- Know how to use the lifts safely.
KNOW THE CODE. IT'S YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.
This is a partial list. Be safety conscious.

Here are some other guidelines to help you have fun on the slopes:
Serious Signage
- Green Circle: Easier Terrain.
- Blue Square: More Difficult Terrain.
- Black Diamond: Most Difficult Terrain.
- Double Black Diamond: Caution - Extremely Steep Terrain.
- Orange Oval: Freestyle Terrain. This terrain may include half-pipes, terrain parks and terrain features.
- Orange Circle with Trail Closed - This terrain is closed to skiers and riders.
Body Basics
- Apply at least 15 spf broad-spectrum sunscreen, regardless of whether the day is sunny or cloudy.
- Drink water frequently to avoid the dehydrating effects of high altitude, sun and physical activity.
- Dress in layers with breathable, water-wicking clothes that can be added or subtracted with changes in weather.
Know Your Limits
-- Don't take that last run when your legs have turned to Jell-O.
-- Ski at your own level. Test your skills to improve, but know when you're crossing over into dangerous territory.
-- Control your speed. Respect others on the mountain, especially in high traffic areas where trails are merging.
The National Ski Areas Association and Burton Snowboards would like to welcome you to the "Smart Style" Terrain Park Safety initiative.
Smart Style is a terrain park specific safety program that you should check out before using terrain parks.

The Smart Style Program:
There are four main messages that are associated with Smart Style:
1.MAKE A PLAN
Every time you use freestyle terrain, make a plan for each feature you want to use. Your speed, approach and take off will directly affect your maneuver and landing.
2. LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP
Scope around the jumps first, not over them. Know your landings are clear and clear yourself out of the landing area.
3. EASY STYLE IT
Start small and work your way up. (Inverted aerials not recommended).
4. RESPECT GETS RESPECT
From the lift line through the park.
