Snow You Can Depend On

SnowmakingSnowmaking is what we do best and we take pride in offering our guests a quality snow surface every day of the season here at Killington Resort. While Mother Nature graces Killington with an average of 250 inches of natural snow each winter, we complement her offering with the world's most extensive snowmaking system covering 715 of 1,003 skiable acres at Killington and Pico Mountain.

In fact, Killington Resort has more snowmaking coverage than most eastern resorts have in total skiable terrain, and with the K-1 Lodge located at 2,500 feet above sea level and Killington Peak reaching 4,241 feet, Killington's elevation advantage equals more natural snow and optimal temperatures to product our machine-made Signature Snow - especially early season!

Killington's combined snowmaking and grooming firepower is superior to any other resort in the United States. Our full-time snowmaking staff of 65 is armed with 88 miles of snowmaking pipe, 1,435 snow guns (including 435 Low Energy guns) and virtually an endless supply of water to produce machine-made snow. Plus Killington's 18 snowcats, including three winch cats for grooming steeper terrain, groom 45+ of the resort's 88 miles of terrain on a nightly basis offering our guests with a consistent top-to-bottom surface every day of the season.

The benefits of Killington's snowmaking firepower are many, but the most evident are quality early-season conditions that consist on a variety of terrain offerings and the ability to open the first terrain park in the East every season! In addition, Killington's snowmaking capacity, combined with grooming, allow us to apply an enormous amount of resources to any extreme winter weather condition Mother Nature throws at us. What it means for you is dependable and consistent conditions every morning despite what the weather conditions were the previous night.

We utilize the latest technology to create machine-made snow, including the continued enhancement of automated computer technology and the addition of Low Energy snow guns that utilize up to 75-percent less energy than traditional guns. The result is that with optimal temperatures, Killington can produce more snow with less energy consumption. The increased use of Low Energy snow guns has reduced Killington’s diesel consumption by more than 30 percent and electricity by 25 percent over the past three years.

Killington's snowmaking system is fully computer automated in the control of water and air production, as well as in the managing of all data relative to production, especially energy use and efficiency.
